Forming Committees and Making Committees Work

A committee is a body of one or more persons, elected or appointed by an assembly to consider, investigate, or take action on certain matters or subjects, or to all these. Committees can be extremely beneficial to the success of an organization. Because the success of the organization depends on more than a weekly meeting, it is imperative to develop and continually support committee members.

A committee needs to have:

  • A list of members
  • Helpful resources of information from previous years that may be useful to the committee members
  • Special instructions to the committee including what the committee is expected to do
