Dissertation Support Grant
The Office of Research & Graduate Studies (ORGS) invites students pursuing a doctoral degree to apply for the Dissertation Research Support Grant. This is a competitive award of up to $1,200 to offset the costs associated with a student’s dissertation. Grant proposals are reviewed twice each year and the number of grants awarded is determined by the quality of submissions and the availability of funds. Preference is given to students who have not been previously funded under this grant program.
- Fall – 2nd Monday in October (due by 5:00pm EST)
- Spring – 2nd Monday in March (due by 5:00pm EST)
2016-17 Conference Funding
Graduate Student Research and Creative Endeavors Grant
The Office of Research & Graduate Studies (ORGS) invites students pursuing a master’s or specialist’s degree to apply for the Graduate Student Research & Creative Endeavors Grant. Doctoral students are also eligible to apply as long as the research is not associated with their dissertation as a separate Dissertation Research Grant is available. This grant provides up to $800 to offset costs associated with a student's research or creative project. Grant applications are reviewed twice each year. A student may receive this award only once per academic year. Preference is given to students who have not been previously funded under this grant program.
- Fall – 2nd Wednesday in October (due by 5pm EST)
- Spring – 2nd Wednesday in February (due by 5pm EST)
Graduate Presentation Grant
The Office of Research & Graduate Studies (ORGS) invites submissions for the Graduate Presentation Grant. Grants are available for up to $500 to offset the costs associated with the student’s presenting his/her work at a conference. Only first authors are eligible to apply for this grant. Students must have matching funds from his/her advisor, department, or college. Students may receive the award only once per academic year. Preference is given to students who have not been funded previously under this grant program.
- Fall Conferences (Sept 1st to Dec 31st, 2016) – Submit by Last Monday in November 2016
- Spring Conference (Jan 1st to Apr 30th, 2017) – Submit by Last Monday in March 2017
- Summer Conferences (May 1st to Aug 31st, 2017) – Submit by Last Monday in June
*Graduate Assistant Conference Grant

The Graduate Assistant Conference Grant provides $100.00 per academic year to teaching or administrative graduate assistants in the graduate assistant bargaining unit to attend a professional conference related to the graduate assistants academic discipline or job duties. Graduate Assistants (GA’s) may receive the grant more than once during the academic year; however, preference is given to GA’s who have not been funded previously under this grant program.

- Requests must be made and approved by department chair and ORGS prior to conference.
CSE Student Meeting Grant
The College of Science & Engineering Dean’s Office has funds available to both graduate and undergraduate students for presentation of their research or attendance at a professional meeting. You must be a CS&E major/graduate student and a current student at the time of application for reimbursement. The maximum awards are $100 for attendance at a professional meeting and $350 for presentation of research. Each student may receive at most ONE of each award each fiscal year (July 1-June 30). CS&E will not provide support for conferences hosted in Mount Pleasant. Costs eligible for reimbursement include transportation, meals, parking, lodging, and registration fees; all reimbursement claims are subject to CMU reimbursement policies.
